I must confess that during the holidays my kids turn into night owls. They stay awake until late and sleep late in the mornings. I admit that I actually quite like our lazy mornings. It's what summer holidays are all about. In this photo Max is in bed reading a story on his iPod touch.
TODAY'S PHOTO TIP - using available light
If you've ever had a photo that you took of your child that you love except for those crazy red eyes and washed out skin that you get from using your camera's flash, then this tip is for you. I recommend turning off your flash in most situations. Look instead for other sources of light. Go outside, turn on the lights or open up the blinds. In the photo above, the only source of light was the bright screen of the iPod touch illuminating Max's face. Now I realise that not every camera can photograph in light this low but there are plenty of situations where your camera's automatic settings will pop that flash up and it might just spoil what could have been a beautiful photo. Look for available light in all kinds of places and see what a difference it makes to your photos.
