MySchool Australia

My son has been bullied all his school life. I have tried to work with teachers and principals to deal with the issues but nothing is ever done. I have removed my son from the state system to a private school but the matter has become worse. My son has tried doing the right thing by informing teachers, principals etc of the bullying but was offered no help by anyone. He has now learnt to deal with such issues himself. So now he has been labelled as the problem. The problem is the schools and their lack of ability or want to deal with the issues of bullying. It is unfortunate the the victims of bullying have to defend for themselves as no school is willing to help protect the victims. The bullies are winning the fight and this must stop. Is it that the bullies from our day are now the principals and teachers of our schools. How many more of our children have to die because the Goverment refuses to deal with the bullying issues. I am scared that my child may not come home from school because he hs been bashed by thugs and nobody within the school system does anything. Something needs to be done and it has to come from Kevin Rudd NOW! Our children are our future and should be treated with respect and not ignored. SAY NO TO BULLYING AND SAY YES TO ACTION!!!!!!

Phillip in reference to bullying and the legal implications please refer to the National Centre Against Bullying International conference April 2010 outcomes which identifies that there needs to be more clarification of criminal and civil law regarding cyber bullying and bullying in Australia. Unfortunately its the very extreme cases of bullying ( when the children end up in hospital) is when the Police are contacted however the damage occurs a lot earlier. Until schools and communities become dedicated to treating bullying as a health and wellness issue and
become serious about developing and executing programmes that will insite a "culture" change, then we
shall see this problem continue to perpetuate in Australia. Teachers and parents require support and training in how to deal with this global problem and Unfortunately Australia ranks right up there for Bullying. Regards Mea Black

Petra.... Touching base to see how things are going for your little man? FYI... A great website to visit is Bullying.org where your son can view himself how other children from around the globe deal with bullying in their daily lives. Highly recommended. Also refer www. empoweringaussie kids.com.au for comprehensive links from all over the world regarding bullying. Best of luck Mea Black

Thankyou Mea, but I have tried communicating with all teachers aswell as principles, however, are too quick to point the finger at my child. I have finally found a public school that is extremley helpful in supporting my son. We are now in the process of changing all of my sons way of thinking and dealing with the issues of bullying and the lack of trust he has with teachers and principles. His self-esteem has taken a hge knock. He is a fantastic young man that has been treated like the devil himself. However, He is to go to highschool next year and finding a decent school that are honest regarding their bullying strategies is hard. Nobody seems to want to know about it and quick to say that he has issues. It is hard to deal with but we will keep going as my son has alot to offer to society. Pitty the school system hasn't seen it.

Dear Petra Your sad account of your sons school life thus far is compelling and unfortunately becoming common among parents in Australia. Yes you are right, that the schools have a responsibility also known as Duty of Care. However the interpretation of this term is very loose amongst some schooling districts and systems. Bullying is unfortunately across all schools public, catholic, non-demominational and private schools in Australia. Lobby your school for their bullying policy possibly located in their school prospectus. Keep the lines of communication open and available to your child's teacher and principal. Let your child's teacher know that you are working at home on these social issues and would appreciate her support. Feel free to contact me at admin@empowering aussiekids.com.au Good Luck Regards Mea Black

I agree it is a problem. My son was expelled from school from reacting to a bully and even tried to tell staff/teachers (as i always taught him) and he received no help, so how unfair is the system!

Yes , its a real problem, fortunately i had a bigger brother to look after me . Any bullies who messed with me got a good bashing ( outside of school or on the weekends that is) and never tried it on again.
