Throughout the month of January I will be posting one photo a day of my children as we enjoy our Summer break. With each photo I will be posting a tip to help you take better photos of your own children with whatever equipment you have, be that a fancy digital SLR camera. a point and shoot or a phone camera.
So break out your camera and join me in capturing life as it happens. Your children will thank you for it in years to come.
January 1st is all about rest and recuperation after the celebrations the night before. Molly and Max were up late to watch the fireworks so their energy levels were low. A great day to relax in the pool.
TODAY'S PHOTO TIP - Eyes
Look for light in your children's eyes when you are taking their photo. If there is none, you might be able to turn them around or have them look up a little so you get what photographers refer to as "catch lights". As you can see in the photo above, that doesn't always mean having the subject look directly at a light source. That can work against you with them squinting. The catch lights you see here are tinted blue because they are a reflection from the side of the pool. The sun is actually behind Molly. In a close up portrait like this, having the eyes bright and in focus is the winning formula.
