We are in the process of making a move from WA to the Gold Coast and was wondering if anyone could give any insight into Varsity College (both primary and senior school). Is it true that it is one of the best state schools in the area? And are there any bullying problems there? Ta

Can anyone help, I am looking for a great primary school for my 7 year old daughter. We still haven't decided on which area to live yet so a good school could make that decision for us.

10 top tips for researching a high school

Due to the fact that Gold Coast private schools don't take a serious enrolment deposit, they have mile long waiting lists which don't offer anyone a guaranteed place until a few damn months before the entry year ! I just wish they would take large deposits like Melbourne schools do. This guarantees parents are serious about attending the school instead of putting their kids down at 4,5,6 schools etc. I am having full blown anxiety attacks over an uncertain future for my kids while I try to pl

My daughter is enrolled to start Prep at Petrie Primary in 2011. We did actually try to get her into 3 other local private, independent, and state schools which were higher on our list of preferences however we did not get into any of them due to number of enrollments and catchment rules. Can anyone tell me anything they might know about Petrie Primary, good or bad?

It is great to see the promotion for a National Solar programme on this site.
Unfortunately, our school, Katoomba Public, has unflued gas heaters as the main source of heating. Banned in other States, this cheap form of heating seems to be deemed good enough for our kids despite the respiratory problems it brings.
Blackheath has attracted funding to replace their unflued heaters and congratulations to them. This also removed one of the main sources of angst to the State…

Hi
I am an old pom who loves teaching and doesn't want to retire yet. I have several years' experience teaching in state and private schools in the UK and am fit and healthy and fully registered with the Victorian Institute of Teaching.
Any contact with a private or state school needing a maths teacher is welcome! I have to go back to UK soon but (subject to my getting a visa) could return to start work Term 3 July 12 this year.

Who was your favourite teacher? What made this teacher such a special person in your life?
What
could be more important than to see our young people grow and develop
into confident, competent, capable and knowledgeable young men and
women? If we think back to our own schooling, I'm sure there are
teachers who still hold a very special place in our hearts. Why do
memories of these teachers stay with us during our life? Maybe because
they seemed to really understand us, or relate to us. S…

It seems rather difficult to get correct information from most government sites with regards to NAPLAN.
Any parent/carer in any state that decides to WITHDRAW their child from participation is entitled to do so. Even the mySchool website appears to imply that this is not the case.
In 2009, nearly 10% of students in 3, 5, 7 and 9 in Victoria did NOT participate, so to claim that "all students in 3, 5, 7 and 9" do is more than simply inaccurate, and
