I feel homework should be marked at the end of the week and handed in on a Friday.

To allow for extra cirricula activites after school.

I also don't believe year 1's shouldn't have homework apart from a reading book every night. Childen at this age still need to develop their social skills and should be able to play outside after they have been at school for 6hrs.

I want my children to enjoy school and school work but coming home at the age of 6 and sitting down and doing homework for 30 minutes, doing their site words and numbers every night ontop of a reading book and sometimes even longer if your child is struggling is too much.

Wow, it's so similar to my way of thinking. Nice to know. Thanks again Mike.
Hi
I am new to this site. I think children should not have to do homework until they are around year 7. If things are taught well in school there should be no need for homework. It leads to lengthy battles and means kids have less time for creative play, chores and fun reading. I always sneaked off to read what I wanted and hated homework. Spelling lists are unnecessary when a proper phonics based reading/ writing system is used like Spalding.
Homework is either too hard ( so the parents have to do it) or too boring and unconnected with what they learn at school or both!
My kids fight over any newspaper or journal they can get their hands on. They are much more educational and naturally lead to discussions over bias and selective reporting.

all the best
