Does anyone have any advice on what to expect from a school in terms of support in primary school for a child with an asd?

Can you recomend any schools in the western sydney area?

Ask the schools what programs they have in place to assist your child. Also I recommend asking the Autistic Association if they know of any schools with special programs to best suit your child.Hope this may help you
i have an autistic daughter who just started school this year and all she is intiteled to is two hours of help a day from special education.
My son attends a mainstream public school. It is very small (about 180 kids) which put our minds at ease because all the kids got to know him very quickly and looked out for him. He also has a teachers aid every morning helping him in class which the school gets funding for. In my experience, the dedication of teachers who choose to take the time and learn about alternative teaching plans and methods to keep your child learning at the same level as the other children, make all the difference. Organisations like Aspect can organise an outreach service that come to your school and help teachers do this.
