I don't believe Cairns is the best place for kidz with Autism. They have schools within schools for the disabled and they put those dis children with the other kidz as much as possible and they disrupt others in the classes and do things to attract teachers attention. These children have special needs, but so do others in classes. We have three sons with special needs, ages 14,6,& 4 and i would not put my two youngest in a Cairns school as niether of them speak and couldn't tell us what was happening to them in these schools. Our 14 yr old was at normal school he was bullied he has adhd and was diognosed when he was 8.

We have been lucky with my sons school on the Gold Coast...our HOSE is highly trained in ASDs and is fantastic. All of the SE teachers and aides are fantastic with him and the support he gets is above and beyond.
I think the key to finding a good school for ASD kids is to find SE teachers/HOSEs that are specifically trained and have worked extensively with ASD kids. Otherwise, I think the teachers just expect that these kids will behave like *normal* kids and when they don't, they treat them like *naughty* kids.
