I LOVE STICKERS : )

I can't believe how much fun giving and getting a sticker is, positive reinforcement can be a smile, a comment or something that parents and other children see, a tangible communication to others also that this child has done well in some way!

It would be great to encourage all students (Linda you are right) on all virtues... & on trying their best even if task is unfinished or maybe not as neat as others work etc it isn't a class competition about 'best in group' it's more 'best of self' & should be admired : ) whether by a word or smile from the teacher, or by something as simple as a stamp or sticker displayed in the child's book or uniform for others to see. Setting individual goals and recognising small achievements that hopefully get the child to realise they're unique, and doing their best is what's admirable, in behaviour, work, sport and that's something to be proud about, not just where the child places in test results or where they finish over the finish line. Sorry I hadn't been online in a long while, I'm hoping to drop by a lot more often! Have the best day & keep smiling : )

The textbook i am reading at the moment makes the distinction between praise and encouragement.

After reading about this, i am enthused now to give more encouragement to the students who are displaying great virtues also. Patience, courage, honesty, helpfulness.

The textbook notes that a lot of kids do not always get to finish their work, and that encouraging them for trying gives them the recognition they need.

am tired and just finished 2 assignments (sorry if i am not totally clear!!)

Karyn, not having a dig at you...just adding extra thoughts.

I haven't been teaching long and I love the extra bonus when the parents pick up their kids and ask what the teacher gave them a sticker for, a good deed, excelling in a small way, reaching a goal, the child then can proudly relate what he may have otherwise forgotten, so it actually opens up dialogue between parents and children which is an added benefit!
