Well our school fundraising committee has seen fit to have a Cocktail Evening $35p.p. (incl:1 drink & nibbles). Our school is a small school in the country.
My first cringe with this was that it feels very exclusive.
It excludes anyone who doesnt drink, these arent mocktails, their cocktails.
It excludes anyone who is having financial difficulty, after all most will go with a partner $70 plus babysitting, plus extra drinks,I think its easily over $100.
Secondly what about drink driving? After all there's only a couple of taxi's for the whole town.
Unlike the city, here in the country drink driving is common, I'v never heard anyone here mention a nominated driver.
I like a drink like alot of people, but it feels weird having a school condoning drunken behaviour.......sorry i know it only says a cocktail night but when the fundraising committee has had every meeting in a pub, well out of town, you cant tell me their not drink driving when you hear the principal & staff giggling like teenagers saying they'v had a night on the town.
