Please keep using this forum to help one another, I haven't been on again in sometime, had a lot going on, my Mum losing an eye to cancer, my better half injuring himself at work, but the most positive out of all of this is we've had another little girl.

Our Aiden is almost 10 now and is in year 4 in 3/6 class of 12 with all sorts of needs. He was only taken out of the Autism class last year, bad choice on the schools part, his meltdowns have increased into violent behaviors, the change has been major for him. Hopefully as the year continues it gets better coz there is no returning to the autism class as his place is now filled.........We need a better system for our precious kids, its liked they are just shoved where they fit best according to teachers.....there has to be a better way

Hi there, does anybody know which are the 6 chosen schools to host the first ISP's as announced by the government last year?  And who chose the schools?  I think Moomba Park is one of them, but no idea on the others.   Many thanks Susan.

Hi all.  We have a 5 year old daughter with (high functioning) ASD.  We currently live in inner city Melbourne, but as we are renting are in the fortunate position that we can move.  As our daughter will be starting prep next year we have been looking at schools and meeting with principals, teachers etc. We would like to hear from others as to any recommendations they may have, with a preference for inner city or south-east.  Thanks

Hi All, I would never have discovered this group if not for curiosity about the publicity around the my school website!! So thats great!

I have a wonderful 11y/o High functioning ASD boy who is experiencing many of the problems I have read from your comments on this page. I have him in a wonderful private school here in Tas and he has the best (male) teacher. We have faced serious bullying issues in the public system (in ACT) which forced us to make the change to private. I found this very sad as many teachers thought my son was just a very naughty boy and excluded him from activities (such as music) at which he is gifted. At his current school there is no such exclusion and teachers are sympathetic to his now less frequent "dummy spits". His classmates have accepted him without judgment which is heartening. I have also mainstreamed him from the very  beginning (including extended day care from age 1). I do believe this has been to his social advantage as he has "learned " how to behave is many social situations. The major remaining issue (for the moment!!) that I stress with now is diet! He has an hysterical fear of trying new foods and has not eaten fruit or vegetables since he was 11 months old! (vitamins are a godsend!). Everything has to be cooked within an inch of its life, and even though he understands that it is a health issue for him, he simply is terrified of change. Does anyone have any ideas or should I not stress about it?? My GP doesn't seem too concerned.

Hello,  My name is Kylie and I have a 9 year old son who has Aspergers, OCD and ADHD.  We live on a remote cattle and sheep station and our only form of Education is Distance Education (the old Schoo of the Air).

I have been resposible for teaching my son since he started pre school.  Not an easy task, when you are not a trained teacher.  This has been a huge strain on our family.

Sadly, there is very limited support for children with any form of Disability, undergoing Distance Education.

As my son is getting older, we now have to start researching  boarding schools.  Is anyone aware of boarding schools in NSW that are happy to cater for a child with ASD?.  Has anyone else been in this position and if so, how did your child adjust?.

Hi

My names nahida ,I live in adelaide.I have a 6 yr old who is autistic. An incredible liitle man who has conquered many many mountains. He is in mainstream school ST Andrews. He had alot alot of support fromhis teacher ,the staff and the students a wonderful enviroment.WE did have several knock backs from other school.,They never used the austism word.Or as one school put it Adam would never socially fit in.That was from the school psychologist. Little did he know Adam would become one of themost  popular students at his school.    I do have one question is anyone dealing with an eating disorder..As Adam has a huge phobia to food.I would love to hear from anyone ..That is dealing with this.My email addy is ynahida@hotmail.com.My hat off to St andrews..
