Would you switch schools if the local Private School ranked higher than your local Public School or vise versa?

Yes i certainly would
I'm stuck in a choice on which school to go to. Trinity Lutheran College or A.B Paterson. anyone have any ideas on what is best? they both have really good reputations, and I'm sort of scare that the kids there are snobby and unfriendly, and that the school really pushed you to hard to succeed. I go to Nerang state High school, a school with not such a good reputation. but it does have the friendliest students and teachers. i am happy at the school but am told that i am never going to go to uni if i stay at that school, and have to go to a private school wit a good reputation.
If you are willing to put more time & effort toward your studies and not easy to be distracted, regardless private or public I believe you will achieve to uni. When a school have a good reputations, and yes they will push you really hard you to achieve their standard, as they don't want you to ruin their good reputations. If you think you are not a very motivated person and easy to be influent, it would be good to go to private as there are someone there to push you and follow up on your work.
yeah i believe that i can achieve uni, i get great marks. but still I'm told i have to make a decision. know i'm not the person to push my self hard, but I am worried that if i go to the school that pushes me hard ( A.B Paterson) that they may be ahead of me, so i will have to catch up and may not get the grades i used to have.
this is also something you might have to consider, you could be the top 10 in your present school. but when you change the school, you could be just in the middle range. If you can constantly achieve 80-90% in your school, why change. If you are always in the top range, I am sure they will scale your mark a few percent higher than the other student. If you still have doubt of what level you are now, you can go to board of studies website and do the past HSC paper, to see how well you perform. Plus I believe if you are doing great at your present school. I am sure they are willing to give you a free tutor after lesson, explain any question to you personally or giving you tips of which question you need to focus on and how to do well in your HSC. I am sure your teacher are willing to assist student that are willing to try hard for their goal.
yeah, thats what iv tried to tell my family. but there convinced no uni will take me cause of the horrible reputation of the school. and the thing is, i don't need tutoring cause I'm doing great!
What Angelo said is correct, and maybe if you go to my school website and make a compare on both school. I have a quick search on the school you attended, they seem to have a 17% of student had make it to uni, maybe you should also check up on A.B Paterson. i am sure it will be much higher.
if your argue is about your school is unable to make it to uni than that is not the cases and it had proved 17% of student did make it to uni last year, but if your argument is about higher mark and ranking than private school will be the choice for you to go.
At the end of the day we all want what is best for our children. statistically they say that low social quality area children are less likely to get into university's. I personally have gone to both in my life, public and private and in my case the private school far exceeded the public. they were far more structured and disciplined with studies and did push the student to achieve the best they could for themselves, no matter what level that was.

I'm not speaking for all private schools but i think the my school web site is credible because it makes all schools accountable for what levels there students are at. This site as a parent has certainly helped me make an informed decision which way i send my children, private or public and given ALL schools a wake up call. There is no reason to pay thousands of dollars sending my child to private school if a local public school is performing just as well and if the public schools are not performing then i have no problem spending the money for my childs education on private tuition
hmm... to me I reckon that it depends on your child if they're willing to learn or not. Private doesn't mean that they keep stuff private about the students they also tell or post it on their school website about the students who got top marks and who were presented an award by a councilor or any other people. The private school does exactly the same study and technique of teaching like public school beside you have to pay fee and some extra stuff.
I certainly agree to schools not keeping everything private, if a student does well they show it, but how is a parent going to make an informed decision on where to put there children ? very hard to look through all the schools in the area and all there achievements and try to make an assessment on where to place your child. I have personally gone from private to public and despite what you say in regards to being taught the same studies there was a huge difference in the way it was taught and the advancements that were made in furthering the education. What i was taught in year 7 in private, when i went public in year 8 it was very easy because i new everything for that year as well. Easy to say that it depends on the child and yes up to a point but if the school has solid structure, solid ethics, solid morals than it will only spill onto your child and in most cases it will show in the results. cheers !!!
ok, well I'm no longer under the pressure to move, i am now given the choice. and both have ups and downs. i love Trinity, the kids seem well behaved so i can learn and the teachers are friendly. they have a fabulous drama department which is great. but it does not have the subject S.o.s, which is phycology. and thats really important for my future as well as the fact i like it.and it is a religious school.

however the school i currently go to hasn't got the best behaved kids, which can sometimes mean that the teaching is not that good. the school does not have a lot of money and the drama isn't great. but i am doing well in the school and have friends. but i am worried about the fact that we can not go on school excursions and things because of money and that we do not have the right resources. i am worried about the fact that i may not learn as much as i can in Trinity, but if i go to Trinity i won't learn phycology. i have to make a decision soon on what to do.
well why don't you choose a different school ? I believe there might be hundreds of school that have phycology in their school and that they have enough money for excursion and stuff....

Of the Public schools in the area, Newbridge Heights has an excellent reputation. Holsworthy has a very good Kindergarten program. Both Wattle Grove and Hammondville are very good schools too.
