My son will be sitting the oc exam tomorrow and I am very interested to see the percentage of students sitting this test has been receiving any tutoring prior.  For my son he has not had any tutoring at all, maybe I'm a bit naive to let him sit the exam without any prior tutoring but I have always felt that I would like to give him the opportunity (no pun intended) to sit the exam and to see if he does have the natural ability to be accepted or at least pass. I do not want to rob him of the opportunity just because I may feel he is not quite up there with the tutored students.  In my opinion his chances are less than 1% but I would still like him to give it a try.  He has always been an above average student from Kindergarten without any help outside of school.

It would be very interesting to see the results of this post. If you do not want to comment just post yes (for tutored) and no (for no prior tutoring).  I sincerely hope I will get some posts to see the results.

Thank you everyone in advance.

If you want your son to make in oc or selective school, it would be a yes. My daughter had always in a gifted and talent class ever since year 2. Her report is always a outstanding. however I have tried my daughter of not going tutoring to sit for the test and the result didn't comes out to be what expected. Also school don't teach them the stragies and general ability questions, therefore it will be very limited chance. outside coaching school will be keep giving you exercise after exercise to get you use of the test environment and memorising the questions. Although they might not know why they are doing it, but it will make them get use of the questions. Also is very stressful for the child.

My answer is a YES, depend how much you want your child to go to OC
and No if you want your child to know study is an enjoyment and is not a burden.
Hi Jessica, my son did the oc test but didn't get in and he just missed the reserve list. He then did the selective school test for year 7 and got in. He hasn't had tutoring and I'm a single parent who works full time. He's always done well at school, however, I didn't think he had much chance of getting into the selective school but he surprised us all.

Of the Public schools in the area, Newbridge Heights has an excellent reputation. Holsworthy has a very good Kindergarten program. Both Wattle Grove and Hammondville are very good schools too.
