I reckon it's only one little test to and it's taking it as I it's the whloe capability of your child/ me the student I think it's not smart comparing schools like that becasue as you said not the higher result for school with suit your childs education

I think NAPLAN should go ahead. I think schools, parents and students all need to know how their child(ren) fit into the bigger picture. We should be grateful of such a test. I feel the Government developed this site to keep a more watchful eye on education and identify schools in need. Shouldn't that be celebrated? We can be such a pessimistic society at times and I think it's about time something jolted this country into an Education revolution. I welcome a National Curriculum and anyone who is anti-NAPLAN is selfish. It's for the benefit of the students and their future. Good on Julia Gillard. Keep the pressure on the small-minded teachers and unions who are only thinking of themselves and the shame they bring upon the schools they represent.

It is down to peoples common sense to use the information on Myschool when comparing schools. I was fortunate enough to go to a school that performed well, but I went there because I wanted to do well at art. So therefore, if I was using the Myschool site to determine my needs I'd be more than stupid.

Absolutely, I too don't understanding what all the uproar is about. But as per usual, someone will demonstrate little something as a huge drama. There is no sucrifice, no victims, they're creating an elephant out of the midge.

Re; Naplan.
Teachers are refusing to watch our children during these exams and want the parents to do their job instead!

The Teachers want their students to behave in classroom and the community wants the teachers to behave and do their job properly by doing as the community has the right to know the progress of their children's results . Since when is it the parents responsibility to do your job? Perhaps teachers do not want to be held accountable,as you are the ones being paid by citizens of Australia to educate our children.

I agree with you that parents should not supervise children doing exams, unless they're paid, trained and had the appropriate checks like they do for the HSC and SC. Otherwise, this is the responsibility of the teachers as you say. Teachers are not paid by the citizens of Australia, however. They earn their wages like everyone else and like any profession there are good teachers and people who shouldn't be teachers. Getting back to what really matters, though, is that these tests should go ahead. Teachers who refuse should be shameful and anyone who thinks the Myschool website is out to 'get them' has their priorities in the wrong place. Let the Government identify these schools and help them because at the end of the day it's your child or your children's children who suffer if we listen to 'paranoid bullies'.

A child in my sons year 3 class was struggling in Maths, unbeknown to his parrents. This showed up in his Naplan Results, it allerted the school and his parrents to the problem. The government paid for him to be tutored and bring him back into line. With a lot of hard work he is now comfortable in his maths class and his self esteme has lifted. The child now does not fight every day to stay home. Happy child, happy parrents, happy school. BRAVO

I don't have a problem with the NAPLAN either. I also agree the teachers are taking the easy way out. If they don't want to teach properly, then they should not be teachers.

Wow! Some individuals are certainly getting heated over this forum. I hope this animosity is not directed at ALL teachers? I love my profession, and believe that I am doing a fantastic job within the classroom, not only within the curriculum being taught, but in the direction of guiding boys in becoming young men. Even though I do not have a problem with the NAPLAN testing, or the principles behind the MYSchool website, I dislike the media being able to access and report on the data. I would also hate to think that the parents of my students, and the general public who know I am a teacher, thought I did have a problem, and that I, as B. Pryor so lovely put it, 'don't want to teach properly'. Should I wear a sign stating I don't have a problem? Because I am tired of being classified as 'a teacher' who does! Maybe this animosity should be directed towards particular teachers YOU ACTUALLY KNOW have a problem, rather than having a 'dig in the dark' at 'all teachers', and posting things on this ridiculous forum? If you, as a parent or commuinity member, have a problem with how your child or a child you know, is being taught, then sit and talk directly to the school's Principal or teacher in question. We love the feedback, and generally take everything that is being said 'onboard', and make appropriate changes, or discuss various options. Usually, as a school community, the staff will sit for many hours and discuss all the available options to please the distressed parent or parents in question. 99% of the time a solution is reached, and everyone ends up happy. So keeping thoughts and feelings to yourself, and posting them in aimless forums is not going to help YOUR child, YOUR teachers, YOUR school, or YOUR community better themselves.

hi Tim,
I was so excited to see a teacher posting on the site and a passionate one at that. My interest in this web site is to get feedback on what more i can do for my 17 year old son with Aspergers who is at this time failing school. I am interested in input by people who have faced similar experiences; and finding out if other people have had success in helping a child with aspergers to pass year 12. I have posted on other forums on this site and would be interested in any input you as a professional may have. I have been writting to various government departments to have the way in which a child with aspergers is assessed to find an alternative to a written exam. Hope to hear from you soon

I have a son who always failed at school but did well when he went to TAFE to do his HSC. They assessed him properly and did not just say "he's bright but ever so lazy". If they don't have an HSC option at a handy TAFE he may be able to do a certificate course in something he is actually interested in. TAFE courses are more structured and there can be some great disability consultants to help out. He might then want to do an alternative program at tafe if you are looking at Iniversity entrance- and get credit towards a diploma or what ever he wants to do. There are heaps of ways to skin a cat.
Schools are huge and impersonal and rarely an give the right support for these young people. Funding ( if at all) is scant as they have "mild" disabilities.( What a put down, is it "mild' to not be able to get out the door or write a short answer? Is it mild to misunderstand the question when you really know the answer?)
Please ring me as I have had a deal of experience in getting successful outcomes. We have to think in a more creative way to get around all the bureaucracy. My phone number is 0414760663. I am also passionate about this topic. Early -intervention is the buzz word but there needs to be substantial help for older people who are struggling.

Hi! Perhaps you are a teacher who cares and perhaps your school does listen to parents concerns, etc. However, we've been to 2 different schools now and at both, the teachers have been quite disrespectful and rude and the principals brush the issues aside as though they aren't important. Our principal says to come and talk if you have a problem, that they need to have a relationship with families for education to be effective. When it comes to speaking to him though, he is very dismissive and distracted and when he has had enough he looks around the place but won't look at you!!!!!! Maybe this is why you find parents on forums such as this one! It's the only way they are heard and can get support from other people experiencing the same frustrations!! Perhaps all schools need to be professional and appraisals should be done by dept representatives but also by interested parents/community members for all teachers and principals on a regular basis. In all honesty - I think parents know how a teacher is performing better than any principal or colleague. Our school most definitely DOES NOT LOVE THE FEEDBACK!!!! How do you suggest we get the teachers and principal to pay attention? He thinks he knows best. He's set up stage based classes that if done properly may ne an effective way of teaching, but as it stands, it's just all made up of composite classes (that he calls stage based) but there is no grading of students and if you're in yr 2 for example, you're told you can't move on because "you have to remember we have yr1's in with us"! No logic, no sense!
