Gold Coast State primary schools - good ones ????
Hi everybody... we are moving from Melbourne to the Gold Coast, and on a recent trip to there I popped in to a couple of state primary schools and was a bit shocked at how bad the facilities were. My child currently goes to a state primary school in Melb but the difference was confronting and I am feeling quite sick about where I put my daughter when we move (Year 4) and can't sleep at night worrying about if we are making the right decision to move our kids there. I don't want to pay ridiculous term fees to go private (unless I really, really have to) as I'm a big supporter of state schools , but I need advice on where the good primary schools are. Did I just get unlucky with the schools I dropped in to ? I need help !!!

Hi there. I moved up from melbourne to the gold coast as well about 2 years ago. I go to a private school on the gold coast and it is really bad. Its about the same as a public school in melbourne. However a melbourne public school is far more better then a private school here on the gold coast. Public schools are very frightenning. I wouldnt go to nerang or southport. Paying the high fees would ve better id sugest all saints school but id reccommend u not moving up as you'd pay thousands of dollars for a school equivalent to a public in melbourne

Thanks Alex. I have put my kids on the waiting list for All Saints but their waiting list is MASSIVE !!!! I have already been warned about Nerang. We were looking at Benowa or Ashmore ??? Would you tell me which private school do you go to ? I have put my kids on the waiting list for just about every single private school on the Gold Coast (Somerset, St Hilda's, Trinity Lutheran) except for A B Patterson & Coomera Anglican simply because we're not moving North. That's why I was wondering which were the best State primary schools in case we don't get a place at any of the privates. Thanks for your help and advice....

Umm ashmore is a no no and benowa is okay. Robina is good. Id suggest you do extra tutoring at kumon or james an college. But try to stay in melbourne as its much better. I go trinity lutheran college.

Thanks Alex, I actually am going to see TLC next time I am up there. I have my daughter down for year 4 '11. We are looking at Clear Is Waters. and Robina also. Thanks for your feedback, and I hope you get to love the Gold Coast eventually ! It is a fantastic, friendly place and when you are older you will probably appreciate your family moving North !! :)

well I'd just like to say I go to Nerang, and love it. it has so much heart in the school. the teachers are fabulous and the majority of the kids are lovely. i believe that the media attacks Nerang because the suburb itself once had a horrible reputation, but that reputation is gone but the media is trying to bring it back. Nerang has a sort of freedom of expression for kids which i love. the teachers are so caring and have helped me so much, not just with education but with who i am, they have inspired me. i have never been bullied there ether. at least take a look at it, public schools are not bad. they are just unlucky that they do not have a lot of money like the private schools to but swimming pools ect.

If we had a choice for our 4 kids again would go to brisbane. Gold coast has nothing flash to offer. Lack of funds from ed qld to private schools, stay away from [edit] Schools - very poor good teacher pool.

As far as state schools go you could have a closer look at Miami Sate Primary School which has a good reputation. The school has great teachers and has more smart technology than a lot of other public schools in the area.

Oh wow, just had to read more. We're in the process of moving from cockatoo, Vic to Brisbane. I have for the past month been looking at schools & places to live. So far we have looked at the mooloolah valley area (sunshine coast) & wongawallan area (tamborine). My kids go to a state school in emerald which I am extremely happy with & I am so scared that the schooling won't be as good or on the other hand it could be great. We emigrated from the uk 10 yrs ago, but our kids are true blue Aussies (aged 6 & 8).
The schools I am looking at are mount tamborine state school, highland reserve state school,canungra & up north Glenview state school looks like the best according to my schools, have good results.
We live in a small village in the dandenong ranges. I want to find an equivalent of where I live & stay away from suburbia cause that's what I'm used to now. Do any of you know what these areas or schools are like?? Would be grateful if you do. Thanks
